25 Songs 25 Days (Day 1)

As I was wondering down my reader feed, I ran across this fun little puzzle, of sorts and thought, to myself, all day about a childhood song.

Finally, the song that brings funny and fond memories is a song from 1981, by Rick James called “Give It To Me Baby.” Now, I’m not too sure of my age but I’m sure I was around 11 years old.

It was my mother driving, not sure who was on the passenger side and I was in the backseat. Well, I was actually sitting in the middle of three backseat, where my big head kept blocking the rear-view mirror. Well, to get to the point. My favorite part of the song is the chorus, of course and the breakdown.

While driving down the 1 Freeway (Pacific Coast Hwy), we were driving to visit family in Los Angeles, I began singing the chorus trying my best to impress my mother and the passenger (who the heck was that..ugh). The chorus went like this (parents imagine your 10-11 year old singing this loudly in the car):

Give it to me
Give me that stuff
that funk
that sweet
that funky stuff
(Give it to me)
give me that stuff
that funk
that sweet
that funky stuff
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give me that stuff
that sweet, funky stuff.

Yes, exactly, my mother gave me a very loving backhand to the jaw and then gave me a spelling test for the rest of the car ride, and I also had to give definitions and use in a sentence. Her reason was, since I can memorize songs, I need to also memorize things of value.

This was my Day 1 attempt at the 25 songs in 25 days.
