Polite Company

In 365 day prompts for 01/15 it asks is it ever a good idea to discuss religion or politics with people you don’t really know. My response

is that I don’t think it is a good idea to discuss politics or religion with people you are not too familiar with. The reason I say no is that there are countries right this very moment who are killing each other over these topics, and they are related.

I try to choose my battles wisely. This subject is barely covered by me unless I know you are mature enough to handle an adult conversation. These topics turn into a screaming match so quickly, and that is just not my thing. I do not believe I should have to match tone for you to hear me. Besides, my beliefs are my beliefs and yours are yours.

I am not here to judge you so don’t judge me and we will all live happily together or apart. The choice is yours.

I’ve never needed validation for my beliefs from anyone else.

But, I agree that those topics should be handled with care. People kill for these topics.

I should not have to prove to anyone my love for God. I should not have to explain to anyone why I am pro 2nd Amendment. I should not have to explain my political preference. I will not allow anyone to define me by them either.

This is me. You be you.
