Dear Mama

Dear Mama

Write a letter to your mom. Tell her something you’ve always wanted to say, but haven’t been able to.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Dear Mom.”

What can I say? You did a hell of a job. I’m grateful and thankful. For what, you ask? First, for moving us out of Los Angeles to Ventura County. First, I hated that place with a passion. What did I hate? I’m still not sure to this day, but my guess because it was slight culture shockand I was in the third grade. I didn’t understand why no one looked like me, well not many anyway. But, I’m thankful for you giving me a different perspective and letting me know that different is okay. I wanted to say is that move, saved, changed, and enhanced my life. It wasn’t Ventura, per’se, that did it, it was you and your vision. You made the sacrifice and moved us away from everything we knew for a different life. Thanks, mom.

I was here every Sunday. it was the local hang-out and walking distance from my house. Took me roughly 10 minutes to walk there. Maybe 20 minutes.

The best part of moving away from southern California is that you taught me to “think outside of the box.” Matter of fact, there is no box. You made sure that I think for myself and be accountable for my actions and to love God first and foremost. Again, thank you.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I love and am thankful to God for you. I could’ve been born into any family, but God saw fit to give us to each other.

Thanks For Reading
