Welcome to my blog of confusion. Why is it so confusing? I have no idea? It just is. Once I get my brain to slow down enough for me to transcribe its contents I’d be amazing.
I looked around the web for some ideas on how to build an ‘About Me’ page for my blog. Over the past 12-13 months, I’ve written a few different posts that explained who I was in some vague or rattled way. This time I decided to write 12 things about me that I have not shared before.
So let’s just dig right in, shall we?
1. I had my first car when I was 17
My car was a 58 VW Bug Canary yellow with original parts. I was so excited to have her. We lived in Oxnard, Ca and while I and my mother were visiting Los Angeles, we went to visit a family friend who owned a car garage. Just so happened that he had just finished working on the car. So, he sold it to us for $700. I was stoked. Needless to say, other people in Los Angeles liked it as well, because three weeks later, she was stolen and stripped.
2. In High School, me and some friends performed at one of our Homecoming rallies.
We decided that since we will be leaving high school soon it would be good to perform in a rally. It is not something we would ever have done in our earlier years, but we felt confident. Plus one of our campus security police was in our group as well. We danced to New Edition’s ‘Poison’ and at the end o the song we were to yell ‘Kawabunga” like the TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). However, I was the only to yell it. Lucky me. 😉
3. My first hangover ever is thanks to the famous Strawberry Hill.
In high school, we already have a budget and I think Boone’s Farm Strawberry Hill was less than $5. Me and one of my girlfriends went to a football game after party. Had a few drinks of Strawberry Hill. I had to go home early and my mom’s ex-husband (step-dad at the time) took me to my favorite restaurant iHop (International House of Pancakes). I couldn’t enjoy it. He informed me I had officially had my first hangover and I need to get it together before my mother gets home. I did.
4. I grew up by the beach.
In Oxnard, Ca, the Port Hueneme beach was only about five to ten-minute walk from my house. After moving from Los Angeles, and the beaches being fifteen to twenty minutes away. Oxnard was more accessible. Channel Island Harbor was less than five minutes. After my mother moving us to Oxnard, every community I move to, I look for the same type of community. Quiet and clean.
5. I used to think Marriage was pointless.
I used to say to anyone who asked that, “Marriage was just a piece of paper telling you that you can’t leave”. Maybe this is why my 17-year marriage finally ended. HA!. Maybe I should be sad. Oh well. Now, I believe different, well, kind of.
6. If you are in the market for a ‘Low Maintenance’ friend. I’m your girl.
I am that friend that doesn’t call much. Don’t text much. Have you ever watched “My Best Friends Wedding” with Julia Roberts when she was asked if she was averaging thirty days on all of her return calls? That’s me. I have a few close friends that understand my distancing behavior. They don’t like it and have expressed it often, but they understand and we are all ok with that. Well, at least that is what they tell me.
7. I tend to over analyze everything. I mean everything.
My oldest daughter tells me all the time that I need to relax a little more. She tells me that I don’t have to over analyze everything. My response is that everything has an answer. Everything. We may not ever like the answers but it makes me feel more relaxed when I can play all possible scenarios I can think of.
8. In the last 90’s early 2000’s I worked at the Chamber of Commerce. Politics, Yay.
During this time I worked with the Small Business department and we dealt with a lot of the government officials in Texas. Including the Bush family. I enjoyed the high stress and demand of this job. I work well under these conditions. I was not aware of working there that all the officials had pre-written speeches and there was a person in the back to make sure they stayed on topic. Sometimes I was that person to remind the Fire Chief, Mayor, etc that they have deviated from the speech. Good times.
9. When Obama won the election, I was happy that the door was opened for more options as POTUS. However.
I have always been skeptical about the turnout. I remember when he won and people asking me how do I feel about it, My answer was usually, “I’m thankful God allowed me to see a black POTUS in my lifetime, as well as my children. They now know that nothing is off the table. They can be anything. However, I still thought that his winning was bittersweet. A set-up and distraction. So far, unfortunately, I feel I am right. All good tho. I’m not hating I’m just saying.
10. I learned how to shoot.
I have wanted to learn to shoot for so long. But, all the people I knew then, I didn’t fully trust to teach me the way I wanted to learn. A bit controlling huh? I respect my firearms because I know that they are life and death. No in between. There is a lot of fear being spread about people who are armed, but one would have to ask themselves. “Who are the ones doing the shootings?” usually not the ones who bought their firearms legally. I mean, we have to go through the FBI to get licensed. I am now in the market for the Sig Sauer 1911 two-tone .45 3.3 barrel. She will be mine soon.
11. Today my new Passport finally came.
Now I am ready. We have a trip planned to South Korea sometime this year. I want to go and sit under the Cherry blossom trees. Also, Hawaii is on the calendar for Spring. I better get all of my school work under control.
12. Finally, I am finishing up my Criminal Justice/Psychology degree.
I’ve been asked what I am going to do with the degree? Am I going into law enforcement? The answer is. No, I am not planning on going into law enforcement, unless I can work in the office, ONLY. Other than that, probably customs or something. Haven’t figured it out yet.
These are just 12 facts about me to help get to know me a bit.
