Conjoured Anger

Anger? What is anger? What dues angry look like? Who does anger look like? How is anger expressed? Is anger really bad? Where does the feeling of anger come from and what is it’s purpose?

I don’t think I know the answers to any of those questions. My understanding of these traits is as follows.

Anger is an emotion that we express loudly in the United States without regard. We have a tendency to say I’m mad and you better acknowledge me right this very second.

Dodged Adverbs

As I sat in the chair at the beautician getting my hair braided, I watched life take place.

The ladies braided their client’s hair she chatted while the tv played Love & Hip Hop Reunion Part 2 on extra loud. At least it seemed extra loud to me. Stuff. Sigh, just when I thought it would be a relaxing time. I get the privilege of listening to them complain about, I forgot what it was. These shows make my brain hurt.

As time staggered by, these two salesmen, for lack of a better term, walked in trying to sell knock-off makeup for $20. They were poor at their job. One guy walks in and said that he had some makeup for $20 that sells on his website for $60. That was it. That was his pitch. Then his voice had this weird annoying pitch to it like he was begging someone to buy his knockoff makeup. Well, I guess he was begging.

Death to Adverbs

Today’s Prompt: Go to a local café, park, or public place and write a piece inspired by something you see. Get detailed: leave no nuance behind.

Thoughtful writers create meaning by choosing precise words to create vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. As you strive to create strong imagery, show your readers what’s going on; avoid telling them.

Today’s twist: write an adverb-free post. If you’d rather not write a new post, revisit and edit a previous one: excise your adverbs and replace them with strong, precise verbs.

The sin of telling often begins with adverbs*. Author Stephen King says that, for writers, the road to hell is paved with adverbs:

The adverb is not your friend.

Adverbs…are words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They’re the ones that usually end in -ly. Adverbs, like the passive voice, seem to have been created with the timid writer in mind….With adverbs, the writer usually tells us he or she is afraid he/she isn’t expressing himself/herself clearly, that he or she is not getting the point or the picture across.

The Heart Don’t Mind

The Heart Don’t Mind

Mind: You drive, I’ll get the GPS set up on the Bluetooth so we won’t get lost.

Heart: How can we get lost going to the neighborhood grocery store? (sighs) I swear you over think things.

Mind: I over think things? You don’t think enough always going with your gut feeling. Will you pay attention to the road, Chanel said turn left here. Continue reading The Heart Don’t Mind

Let’s Be Crystal Clear

“Be Brief”

So I ran across an old message you had sent me last year, and it reminded me of our current situation.

Let’s be crystal clear just because I don’t behave the way you want me to behave does not mean Continue reading Let’s Be Crystal Clear

Pillow Talk in Season (Room w/a View)

Pillow Talk (My Season)

I’ve always wanted to have a space in my home to call my very own, where I can escape and find solitude within myself. Usually the voices in my head quiet down a bit after sundown, so the space in question will be perfect. Continue reading Pillow Talk in Season (Room w/a View)

Just Ramblings

 Sunday, 4/5/15

Just write aimlessly for about twenty minutes and see what it is that you can come up with. Let me see what is on the menu of this cluttered mind of mine.

First off, Last week of March my oldest daughter graduated from college with her bachelors degree in culinary management, I am so excited and proud of her. My two youngest children (young adults) turned 18 and 19 at the beginning of March, my cup runneth over.

It was such a wonderful feeling to be able to see my oldest in her element. She has graduated, has a job, and has her own place, that she shares with her best friend, her best friends girlfriend, and her sister. How amazing is that?

For the first time I was able to visit my daughter, stay with her at her home and not rent a hotel room, not that I mind the hotel, sometimes one needs a little privacy. *wink*

It is absolutely amazing when you can see the fruits of your labor come to light. You hope that you’ve instilled enough character into your children, but only time will tell the direction they ultimately choose. Life is all about choices and all one can do is pray that we make the right choices for our lives .

It is a struggle I believe we are all familiar with.

“Am I making the right choice, Lord? Please guide my steps and the steps of my children and all that I love, as well as the readers of this post.”
